The Power of Decisions

Share:

Life is full of crossroads. Every day, you make decisions – some small, some drastic – with each one shaping a piece of your future. You make an average of 35,000 decisions each day. Some of them have little impact, like what to eat for lunch. But many others are powerful in deciding what sort of day you are going to have. And the biggest decisions – whether or not they seem big – have the potential for powerful consequences that could change your trajectory. As Wilfred A. Peterson put it: “You are only one decision away from a totally different life.”

Think about the last movie you watched. Remember the main character. Movies depict individuals making a series of choices that shape the plotline and the outcome. There usually comes a certain point when the main character has to make a life-altering decision. This could be the difference between accomplishing their goal or failing. Although many events in movies are dramatized, the lesson remains: your decisions are pivotal and shape the plotline and outcome of your life.

One of these important decisions is whether or not to engage in underage drinking and drug use. You have the power to decide what trajectory your life is going to take. Just like a movie, each of your decisions influences your plot, and sometimes, a pivotal decision arises that could change your life. If one of those choices comes along, like being offered a drink or a drug by a friend, it is essential that you make the right choice. One use of a substance could endanger your life and your future, putting any plans you have in jeopardy.

There is no such thing as an isolated event in a movie or in life. Every choice that is made and event that occurs influences what happens next and whether the main character accomplishes their goal. Remember that your life is a series of decisions, and you have the power to change the direction of your plot.
